What is this camp thing anyway?

I've gotten a lot of questions from people wanting to know what exactly "Find Your Beautiful" Camp is. Despite reworking the mission and vision, this is still difficult to really explain. However, I'll do my best here!

Beautiful is a word many people have tried to define and redefine. The one thing that is common among all the companies and organizations that are giving beauty a definition is that they keep trying a "one size fits all" model. No matter how much "diversity" they include, it's still presented as a concept that people should strive for, always leaving room for failure (you fail if you don't buy the product, join the business, subscribe, etc). Through "Find Your Beautiful" Camp, I'm aiming to break this not so Beautiful, in fact downright ugly, model.

"Find Your Beautiful" Camp is based on the principle that Beauty is a perception that one must create and see for themselves. It is a state of being in which you feel, think, look, and are your best self, as defined by you! Actually finding your Beautiful is a very unique and individual experience, yet requires a community to support you. Part of the process includes building relationships with Beautiful people. These are the people who you will lean on when your internal "negative committee" or rough circumstances tries to steal your Beautiful. This is why this camp combines individualized experiences that focus on your mind, body, and spirit with activities that create a strong community.

During its inaugural summer,  "Find Your Beautiful" Camp will offer a specially curated lineup of virtual experiences that will put the social back in social media. We will use platforms like Facebook, not as a toy to sell something, but as a tool to bring people together! The long-term vision of this camp is to offer both virtual and actual (in-person) experiences. I am already scouting Beautiful retreat centers for our first actual adventure.

I hope this gives you a better understanding of what this opportunity is offering. It will be fun and life-changing if you choose to fully engage and commit to the experience!

This is RJ Mitte.  He was in one of my favorite television shows of all time: Breaking Bad.  Mitte played the son of the main character, a teenage boy named Walter White, Jr.  Jr. is an interesting young man, who also happens to have cerebral palsy.  At first, I thought this actor was incredible, because his portrayal of a disability I was familiar with was awesome.  I'm ashamed to say, I assumed he was a typically abled person.  He's not, Mitte has cerebral palsy, and started his career in modeling! This guy is Sebastien Rene.  He played a severely disabled boy in the movies Starbuck and the American version, Delivery Man. While the disability this boy has in the movie is not labeled, I get the impression that his is a more severe cerebral palsy.  Rene's portrayal of disability was so impressive, actually, the producer, Steven Spielberg, wanted him to come back from the French Canadian production and reprise his role in the American film....

This is Amanda, my beautiful wife and the brilliant originator of the DiversAble Model Project!  This blog is an attempt to clarify some things, as well as provide an outlet for a coherent presentation of the DMP.  This is the place we will be showcasing both the models participating, as well as those allies that have stepped up and chosen to help empower these strong, fashionable women. Let's face it, finding a job these days is quite a feat for everyone! Try adding a very visible, physical Diverse Ability and you've got a mountain to climb.
